Painting Hurts | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

You see what I did there? Woooo-Hooo. I called dibs. Now I'm placing lids on top of your firefly collection. Placing posters on top of the sheet rock I kicked in. Worried more about resale, than I am about details.

You see what we put ourselves through? All before kids and cribs and bibs become commonplace. Now I'm placing lids on top of your Ralph Lauren collection. This isn't the direction that we settled on. This is more of a hummus and less of a pecan bronze.

These paint samples don't match the wall, and this doesn't look like much at all like we had hoped. We asked for mulberry cinnamon. This looks like a joke. Tell me it's a joke.

Baby New Year | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

An ode to Baby New Year. Good old Pearl Street is calling you back. Your track record is spotty at best; rest assured we all know all to well. Armed with only freckles and bright red curly hair, you had no fair shake. You had no shot in hell. 12-31-92 .

Pond hockey, you were relegated to goalie. This is the position reserved for the children who didn't get ice skates for Christmas. You're all alone between pairs of snow boots unprotected. You let in one too many errant shots while we all chanted. Siv! Siv! Siv! Siv!

A full month supply of your easy sister's birth control pills will not erase the ills that you're born into. Your issues are of a lesser nature. Yes we hate you, but we hate everybody just the same.

A 30 day ration of your slutty siblings orthotrycyclin will not make things right again. You know it's up and not across. Your ploy for attention lost on everyone you know, including us.

Danbury is no place for people like us. Pearl Street is calling your name.

Slower Sound | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

You don't sound so good, but you don't look so bad. This won't play out well for the courts, but I'm glad I got to see you today.

We need a slower sound. Somewhere else to slow us down to a crawl.

Where we rest our heads, is not as safe as we said. You move to fast, you can't get that back.

You can tell that people used to walk slower by the hesitation of some automatic doors. Flying airlines, used to be a classy affair.

Xtra Effort | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

We truly believe in you, and were sure you can do it.

This is a song; this is a song of general encouragement. General encouragement, yea.

E-X-T-R-A-E-F-F-O-R-T Go! Extra Effort.

You're better than that.

Medicine Haze | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

Let's stay up all night. Talk about when we were younger.

Let's go to bed at 8. Forget about today. There are barely leaves left on the summer trees.

Please don't leave me here. I have no strength to persevere into the colder fall.

We're not old at all. You'll find the strength you need to move on in between another's arms.

Content to live out all my days in a medicine haze. Unshaven, awaiting snowfall.

You're crazy all you have to do is stand tall and be you. They'll be lined up.

That's fine except there is no spring time left to forge ahead to.

I simply said you deserve a warm body to lie beside.

My darling I only want the one that I smile simply to lay next to.

Both our hearts died with you.

Last Place | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

We can all grab at strings. People love to hear of such things. Like the last scenes of movies, ending too happily.

When you're comfortable in someone else's skin, it's the last thing you'd hope for, to lose faith in them.

Torn apart at the seams, to the umpteenth degree. It's the last place you'd ever expect us to be.
